Hello again everyone, if you are reading this post I believe you have already read my post about schematic drawing with Dip Trace. Or may be you are reading this accidentally. If so I recommend to read my 1st post about Schematic Drawing with Dip Trace post before following this post.

In this post, I will talk about how to design a PCB by exporting a PCB layout via Schematic drawing. For that you need to follow the Schematic Drawing via Dip Trace first.

Export PCB form the Schematic Drawing

With my 1st post about PCB designing, we have created a schematic drawing. Now lets export the schematic drawing for a PCB. for that you need to go to File -> convert to PCB as shown in figure.

Then the PCB Layout will open.

Designing the PCB layout

All right, now we have the PCB layout. First thing we have to do now is to draw the PCB board boundary. For that go to Objects -> Place Board Outline.

Then draw the board outline. After drawing the board outline, you can edit the outline by right click and selecting board point.

Then, to Placement setup, go to Placement -> Placement Setup…

 Then tick on “Place Components outside the Board Outline” and “Allow Pattern Rotation”. And also you can edit it as you prefer. By placement setup you can place your components as you needed.

After that we need to arrange the components. For that we can use Placement -> Arrange Components.

So far we have done changers for the single side PCB layout. If you are planning to make a PCB for a  double side or a multi layer PCB you need you send some components to other side of the PCB board. For that we can easily send component to other side by right click on the component and click on change side. (Remember this is only for multi layer PCB designing)

I have send all surface mounting components in to one side and other components to the other side. After that arrange your components for the best way to match them together.

Now lets setup the routing. For that go to Route -> Route Setup…

Then you can change the route settings as you need. This settings may depend according to the way you are planning for print the PCB.

All right, now we have set the route settings for our PCB. Then start to draw the Copper paths(Traces). For that Click on Route Manual button on the tool bar. Also you can use the Auto routing, but I do not recommend that for some cases.

Now I have draw the top layer. But I haven’t yet draw the bottom layer. For that I need to make a hole in the PCB board and connect top layer to the bottom layer. For that we can use the following button on tool bar.

This holes can use to connect Cu path (Traces) which have to send over another Cu path(Trace) form the other side.
If you have drawn a wrong trace on your PCB do not delete the trace. I you delete it, the software will delete the connectivity of the two components also. Therefor you can Unroute Trace as follow.

To interchange with the working layers you can use the layer drop box on the tool bar.

Now we have drawn a 2 layer PCB. Now we have to verify the PCB layout. For verification we have to do 3 verification as follow for make sure the PCB is 100% correct.
Verification 1: Verification -> Check Design Rules

Verification 2: Verification -> Compare to Schematic…

Verification 3: Verification -> Check Net Connectivity…

If this verification are passed, then your PCB is correct. Else you will see an error msg. Remember to save the Schematic design before compare with the schematic diagram.

After that if you need to see the PCB 3D view you can click on 3D button on the tool bar.

To export your PCB design: File -> Export.

I hope now you can design  your own single side/ Double side PCB with Dip Trace. Also in other common PCB designing softwares are also kind of slimier to Dip Trace.
